2023 Dion Snowshoe Squall Snowshoe Race - Results
This was the 7th of 8 races in the Dion Canadian Snowshoe Series, and the final race in the Ontario leg of the series.
Course conditions were spectacular at Hammond Hill with the race once again proving true to its name with snow squalls occurring throughout the day.
The two loop course featured a combination of fast groomed trail, while also winding through some beautiful single track and a challenging uphill switchback climb on each loop.
A large contingence of American snowshoe racers made the trek from Paul Smith’s College in the Adirondacks, NY to make this a truly international race.
Bernie Hogan (current series leader) of Bancroft continued his winning ways in the series with another first place finish in the mens race in a time of 23:24 over the 6km course. Charley Murphy of Toronto finished second in 24:48, followed by Noah Kuc of Paul Smith’s College in 27:48.
Wes Burkit of Paul Smith’s College won the female division in a time of 32:18. Katy Murphy (current series leader) of Toronto finished second in 33:07, followed by Ellen Haas of Paul Smith’s College in 33:31.
Bernie Hogan and Wes Burkit were both awarded a pair of Dion Racing snowshoes for winning their respective races.
A big congratulations to Andrew Pagé and his wonderful team of volunteers at Hammond Hill for putting on an awesome race!
The final race in the Dion Canadian Snowshoe Series moves north to Whitehorse with the Dion Yukon Snowshoe Race on March 23. Series champions will be crowned following the race with a package of over $500 in prizes for each series winner, including a pair of Dion Racing Snowshoes.
