The 2026 Snowy Soles Snowshoe Race certainly was a challenging one this year! It was the coldest day of the winter so far (-28C), and with over 30cm of new snow in the past week, it was not easy running. Fortunately all that snow allowed us to use the Loop de Loop section of the Goodrich Loomis trails, which is our favourite part of the trail system. The 11th Annual Ignite the Night Snowshoe race took place under what can only be described as ideal conditions. After a midweek melt followed by a heavy snowfall, the stage was set for a beautiful run amongst the lights of Upper Canada Village. This record-setting event saw 157 racers register and participate in either a 5 K or 10 K distance. The 10km event awarded points towards the Dion Canadian Snowshoe Running Series . The 2026 Fat Shoe Snowshoe Race took place on Saturday, January 17th in Vernon, BC at the Silverstar Mountain Resort. Participants were able to compete in various events including a Fat Bike Race, Snowshoe Race or a Fat Bike/Snowshoe Duathlon. The 2026 Dion Canadian Snowshoe Series kicked off on Sunday with the Dion Mighty Chickadee Snowshoe Race . After several mild days leading up to the race, participants were pleased that colder temperatures and a blanket of snow overnight left the course in good shape. Men's Race Giancarlo Mastrantoni of Vaughan claimed the overall win in 31:32.
