2024 Dion Mighty Chickadee Snowshoe Race - Results

The Dion Mighty Chickadee Snowshoe Race was held today and was the second race of the 2024 Dion Canadian Snowshoe Series. Cold temperatures and hard packed snow conditions made for a fast 6.7 km course, but the relentless climbs and descents ensured the racers had to work hard.

Mighty Chickadee is the newest race in the series and racers commented on the challenging, yet beautiful course at Cold Creek Conservation area in King Township near Nobleton. After the race, participants gathered inside the Cold Creek Education Centre to warm up with some hot chili and to celebrate our winners. Everyone had a great opportunity to win great draw prizes, including a pair of Dion snowshoes.

The first runner to cross the finish in the men’s race was Bernie Hogan of Bancroft in a time of 27:54. Charley Murphy of Toronto finished second in 29:31, followed by Remi Siffert of Toronto in third in 31:58. Pat Menzies of Whitby was top male master (over 40yrs) in a time of 38:03.

Tanya Urbancic-Venemore of Pickering won the women’s race in a time of 45:50. Dominique Gagnon of Toronto was second in 47:29, followed by Christine Gordon of Collingwood in 48:19. Lisa Bradley of Whitby was the top female master in a time of 51:36.

A huge congrats to rookie Race Directors Phil and Diane Livingston and their team of dedicated volunteers for putting on this first year race and pulling off what many racers called a "fun, but tough" event!

A special thanks goes to series sponsors Dion Snowshoes, Spafford Health and Adventure, XACT Nutrition, in addition to all of the local sponsors, and with support from Snowshoe Canada.

Thank you, and congratulations, to all who took part and supported this event with their entries!

The next race in the Dion Canadian Snowshoe series is the Dion Snowy Soles Snowshoe Race to be held on January 27th at Vanderwater Conservation Area near Thomasburg, ON. Registration is still available!
